Utena- Blood Red Revolution by *KoriMichele
Fanart for Anime Boston 2013. <3
Well, this was a worthwhile way to spend my morning.
2pgs, ink on paper.
I wonder if people would be interested if I organized a Bartkira-style Homestuck-character redraw of the Sailor Moon manga? I think that would be wicked fun.
Homestuck © Andrew Hussie; Sailor Moon © Naoko Takeuchi, etc.
So this happened
(also made a blog for my homestuck fanart @ prettysoldierjohnegbert)
It’s time for another Fanart Friday, the feature that never seems to occur on an actual Friday.
Series: Super Mahou (美和/Miwa) by Twyll
Medium: Watercolor (Holbein) on Paper (Daeler-Rowney Prestige HP)
I recently fell in love with the Super Mahou webcomic because of it’s fresh, amicable characters and simple, funny writing. Not a lot has happened in the comic yet, save character introductions, but luckily they are introduced in a natural, comedic, show-don’t-tell kind of way. Five girls with superpowers have found one other. What happens next?
I could never pick a favorite character, but I’m especially touched by Miwa. She is shy and flustered, her magical power is (seemingly) invisibility, and she does kendo. Interestingly, and perhaps in a way that resonates with her super power, Miwa is a trans* girl. It’s not a fact you would know in any way other than reading her “about” page, and that is satisfying. Her identity has no bearing on the content of the comic- she is just another one of the girls, and that’s something I appreciate. And her female identity doesn’t prevent her from pursuing sports. She is a quiet champion.
I wanted to paint a vignette of Miwa, and originally wanted to represent her power by making her whole figure fade with the watercolor. But after doing the line art, I thought making her outline the negative space might be even more interesting. I’m very pleased with the result, for an experiment. This was my first time trying out this new paper though, and I wasn’t happy with the absorbency (the perils of hot press!)
Go read Super Mahou!
Check out the art and reccomendations of the rest of Kori’s Fanart Fridays! My webcomic is Prince of Cats.
Reblogging to the personal blog.
I kind of want to do one of these for each character. Is that overkill? I just love the designs so much…
TINF is giving me all kinds of feelings and wahhhhhhhhh Landon!!!
I tried painting a picture with no outlines. Results were mixed but there are some really sweet moments! Like Landon’s shoe! Mm! And Officer John’s shirt. I painted some inlines (like the elbow folds and eyes and ears) but everything else is just where the paint meets and overlaps to look like a line.
Anyway go read This is Not Fiction by Nikki!!
I finished all my work early today so I drew fanarrrrrrrrt. Also I’m a sucker for totally contextless tumbling pics.
SUPER MAHOU! Is a totally awesome comic and you should go here and read it like right now. Everyone is adorable in it.
A watercolor painting of my favorite Season 5 Queen, Jinkx Monsoon.
Jinkx has been a resonating character on RuPaul’s Drag Race this season because of her and Jerrick’s struggles to have her achievements recognized in a cast of the louder, flashier, and more drama-inciting contestants. But Jinkx is a fighter and is talented as all hell, so the other competitors are going to be in for a rude awakening if they discount her now.
More Manila. Watercolor on paper. From her music video Best XXXcessory.
(I won’t lie. I painted this so I could use Manila as my facebook banner.)
I don’t know what’s more perfect- that hair made of all my favorite colors, or that precious pout.
Pandora Boxx as seen on Episode 5 of Drag Center.
You can find my Drag Queen Portraits under my #queenpainting tag.
I’ve been working up to this all day.
My favorite queen, Manila Luzon.
Watercolor on paper. Based on her music video Best XXXcessory.
-Willam Belli, from Willam’s Beatdown Episode 6
Watercolor on paper. This quote was just too perfect and the dusty pink wig was even more perfect. Had to paint her.
It’s Fanart Friday! The special feature I conduct on any day of the week I want!
Today: Dylan and Joa are from the Transfusions webcomic by Nieidanine
Fanart by me in pencil and watercolor.
I don’t have a lot of time for fanart, but the aspiration to do Transfusions fanart has been on the top of my list for months. It’s got a lovely, expressive style, and involves a vampire mythos that seems genuine and interesting. It seems to get slotted in with BL because it’s common knowledge that the two leads will be romantically involved in the future, but right now it’s a really pleasant, engaging gen story where their relationship is slowly developing from contract to friendship.
Transfusions updates frequently on SmackJeeves. Check it out if you like stories about reasonable adults being adorable and forming relationships and also puppies and vampires.
View previous Fanart Fridays, where I recommend great webcomics through the power of fanart. My webcomic is Prince of Cats.
Reblogging my own fanart because webcomics! Go read Transfusions!!
Let it be known that Mr. Bolk is henceforth personally responsible for any and all new!spock/bbc!sherlock fanfiction and art to appear from here on out.
This is my reaction to the latest page of Kevin Bolk & Clare Moseley’s hilarious Ensign Sue comic strip. (Read it now if you think you’d appreciate a good rip on the ol’ Mary Sue trope. <3)
